Journal's Publication Characteristics and Review Process

Original manuscripts should be electronically submitted in a document attached to a formally sent e-mail to the Editors. Texts in “ODT”, “SXW”, “DOC” or “RTF” file formats are preferred. Figures can be formatted as “JPEG”, “BMP”, “TIFF”, with high quality to allow electronic (“PDF”) viewing with sufficient details.

Manuscripts should be accepted preferably in English but also in Spanish and Portuguese (with two Abstracts, both in English and Spanish/Portuguese).

There is no a priori limitation in the manuscripts number of pages, inclusion of high resolution color figures (photos, maps, etc.) or tables in each article, since authors fit them in A4 pages with minimum margins of 2 cm. Please, see all details in the Instructions for authors' section before submitting a manuscript.

Submitted manuscripts will be first checked by the Editors to determine if they are within the Journal’s scope and have the minimum requirements in terms of organization and content. After acceptance by the Editors, the manuscript will be send to three external referees. They will be asked to send their comments and acceptance/rejection recommendations back in a four weeks time. After receiving the reviews, authors will have 15 days to provide a new, corrected version of their manuscript.

After the Editors' final approval, a PDF proof of the article will be sent to the first author to be checked. The final version will be sent to the first author and also be freely available in the Journal's site, even before the current Volume/Number is completed.

Besides traditional research articles our Journal may also accept for publication:

    * Scientific original illustrations, including author's full information, specimen information and scientific data, with comments from the artist (one page). Obs.: these images cannot be used by other people without direct authorization from the artist.

   * Scientific photos including author's full information, specimen and site information and scientific relevant data, with comments from the photographer (one page). Obs.: these pictures cannot be used by other people without direct authorization from the photographer

The latter two items (original illustrations and photographs) will not have neither the “full article” nor the “short note” status but will be considered as scientific diffusion material, only.

* Brazilian researchers: please cite this material as “other production” in the Lattes Platform C.vitae. *

    * Communication of scientific books published and also useful software produced by the scientific community.
